Absentee Assemblywoman Joan Buchanan Abstains Again
After earning a remarkable rebuke from the Sacramento Bee for her “disturbing pattern of abdication of her duty as a legislator,” for her equally remarkable history of abstaining from voting, you would think Assemblywoman Joan Buchanan would change her behavior.
Briefly, she did. After the January 5, 2010 Bee editorial and the January 21st launch of www.wheresjoan.com, Buchanan racked up a remarkable 42-day streak of actually doing what she was elected to do – vote.
But she must have assumed we stopped watching to see if she is doing her job and abstained from two more votes last week.
Joan abstained on a bill that cuts funding to foster care providers (AB4) and another bill that would allow new taxes on gasoline (SB6). Does Joan think the voters of the 15th Assembly District are indifferent about foster care families and new taxes? Or is she afraid of going against the Special Interests that are funding her campaign?
In a state capital flailing from the lack of leadership on the budget deficit, job creation, and our economy, Joan Buchanan has become a disappointing example of what is wrong with Sacramento.
Sacramento needs change. The 15th District needs change.
