We Found Joan!
More taxes, no spending cuts, end term limits
After acknowledging that the California budget is in deficit due to spending problems, Absentee Assemblywoman Joan Buchanan comes out in favor of extending tax increases to solve our budget problems. California pays the highest income and sales tax rates in the country yet Buchanan cannot name a single spending cut she would make yet supports more taxes on working families.
On the budget:
"Buchanan said that one of the reasons the state faces a perennial budget crisis is that the current method of budgeting rewards department heads for spending money instead of saving it."
On spending:
"Asked by a woman at the meeting in the Oakley Community Annex building what cuts she would like to make in the state budget, Buchanan couldn't name any."
On taxes:
"The sales and income tax hikes passed by the state legislature last year to help reduce California's budget deficit should be extended for several more years, Assemblywoman Joan Buchanan told 20 people at a pancake breakfast meeting in Oakley Saturday."
On term limits:
"Buchanan, who was elected to her first term in the Assembly in November of 2008 and came in third last September in a bid to run for Congress replacing Ellen Tauscher, said another fix to the legislative process should be the elimination of term limits.
Is this what Joan Buchanan thinks California needs to get our house back in order?
Sacramento needs change. The 15th District needs change.
